With assets maturing in Italy, Germany, Denmark, and other keynotes across Europe, the panel will explore how owners and
operators are navigating evolving grid demands, regulatory pressures, and performance expectations.
Asset owners are learning firsthand how technical standards, failure modes, and operational risks vary dramatically from market
to market. In this session, three industry leaders a technology provider (OEM), an asset operator/optimizer, and an investor will
each deliver focused 10-minute case studies addressing specific operational challenges they’ve encountered in European
markets such as Germany, Italy, the UK, France, and Spain.
These short, high-impact talks will examine the real-world consequences of divergent technical standards, country-specific
warranty issues, performance testing methodologies, and evolving supply chain constraints. Learn how different players are
conducting technical due diligence and mitigating failures in both new builds and operational fleets.
The session concludes with a 30-minute panel discussion and live audience Q&A, providing practical insights for developers,
asset managers, and investors managing or acquiring BESS assets across Europe.
This interactive technical workshop is designed for battery developers, operators, OEMs, and EPCs navigating the complex
challenges of designing and optimizing battery energy storage systems across Europe’s diverse regulatory and grid environments.
Rather than a traditional panel, this will be a participatory strategy session combining structured brainstorming, Slido polls, and
facilitated discussion to generate collective insights from both speakers and attendees.
Attendees will be grouped and guided through key questions covering battery architecture, BMS innovation, system integration,
and maintenance strategies. The workshop is ideal for those who want to share practical experiences, benchmark design
strategies, and gain a more hands-on understanding of optimization techniques in a multi-market context.
How It Will Run on The Day:
• Live Slido Polling: Gauge audience challenges and priorities at the start
Information Classification: General
• Guided Brainstorming: Short facilitator-led deep dives into each of the key challenge areas below
• Interactive Feedback Rounds: Participants share solutions and experiences in real time
• Live Knowledge Capture: Key takeaways captured and displayed to guide closing reflections
As grid congestion intensifies across Europe, TSOs are under growing pressure to unlock more capacity for new and existing
connections- especially for large, flexible energy assets like batteries. In this session, TenneT will present its new Time Dependent Transport Rights (TDTR) contract, a breakthrough solution to help manage capacity constraints on the Dutch high voltage grid.
Launched under the National Action Plan on Grid Congestion (LAN) and going live operationally from 1 October 2025, TDTR
introduces a new, flexible access model that allows users to connect to the grid with guaranteed availability for at least 85% of
the year, while accepting partial restrictions during peak grid stress (up to 15% of the time, notified one day in advance). This
approach makes much better use of off-peak hours and introduces significant opportunities for flexible storage operators to
participate in the grid at lower cost.
With 9 GW of available capacity identified for TDTR, this mechanism represents a major step toward relieving grid congestion
and integrating more distributed and renewable assets into the system.
The focus is on practical, day-to-day challenges, lessons learned, and hands-on insights that aren’t typically shared in formal
presentations.
